Glossary

bisque
Clay that has been been fired at a relatively low temperature.  It is ready to accept your design and paint (underglaze) to make it a complete work of art.
 
 
 
 
ceramics
The art of creating objects of clay that are hardened by firing them at a high temperature in a kiln.
 
 

 

 
 
customer
The reason we do what we do.  Customers are the friends who visit our studio or receive our services away from the studio.  We love our customers and hope they love us back.
 
 

 

 
 
fire
The heating of the clay in a kiln at high temperature until it is dry and hard.  This turns clay into pottery.
 
 

 

 
 
glaze
Clear or colored liquid mixture applied to pottery to create a hard glass surface when fired at the right temperature in a kiln.
 
 

 

 
 
kiln
The oven used to fire the pottery.  Kilns can reach temperatures over 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit.  Kilns are used to dry, fire and glaze ceramics.
 
 

 

 
 
underglaze
Color that is applied onto the pottery before it is glazed and fired.  Underglaze allows you to create the design and colors you wish on your ceramics.
