Flowing Coat
The most basic painting technique is the flowing coat that gives the deep
color for your piece. This can be used to apply a base color to your
piece.
Step 1
Moisten your paintbrush in the water and blot out the excess water - use the
paper on
the table - and dip the brush in the underglaze on your palette generously.
Apply the first coat in a flowing manner with the brush strokes moving parallel
to each other.
Step 2
If opacity (not seeing through the paint) is what you want then you will want
to apply more
than one coat. The first coat must be dry before applying the second.
As we discussed above, the time can be shortened by using the hair dryer at low
setting. Most people get better results in coverage and eliminating brush
strokes if the brush strokes of the second coat are perpendicular to the first
coat.
Step 3
The deepest color is obtained by adding the third coat. As before, the
previous coat must be
dry. Most folks find that adding this coat is best done by making the
brush strokes move diagonal to the previous two.
